More than 5

Thank you for the quiet of the morning,
But also the chaos of the crying, hungry cat.

Thank you for the comforting reassurance of the rain falling,
The calming cadence as it hits the tin of the outside gutter.

The indecisive meows of the cat continue,
and though his belly is full,
he can't make up his mind as to whether he wants to face the onslaught of being wet if he goes back outside.

Meee-oowww, meow,
mee-owwwww
In he comes,

Meee-oowww, meow,
mee-owwwww
Out he goes...

Each time, a total of at least 5--
From seated, I stand,
Walk to the front door,
Turn the old, metal lock,
noticing the sound of its swoosh against the floor,
The creaks of its hinges as it moves into place.

There ensues the mad dash of the cat--

Meee-oowww, meow,
mee-owwwww
In he comes,

Meee-oowww, meow,
mee-owwwww
Out he goes...

How often have I, too, danced this indecisive devotion to You, God?

More than 5, this I know.

Still, there You are,
Opening the door each time,
Letting me in from the rain,
To the warmth of Your reassuring presence.

Thank you God, for the quiet of the morning,
The calming, comfort of the rain,
The chaos of the crying, hungry cat.
